Patients of Rob Jones urged to attend open day in St Austell
Thompsons Solicitors is hosting an open day for concerned patients of disgraced gynaecologist Rob K Jones on Monday, 13 July 2015 at the Unite offices in St Austell from 11.30 am to 4.00 pm.
Almost 200 patients have already joined a group taking legal action against Mr Jones, however it is estimated that a total of 1,000 women could be entitled to compensation after being treated by the negligent gynaecologist at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust.
Mr Jones was suspended from his role in May 2012 following investigations into his standards of practice, before retiring and taking his name off of the medical register.
Leading clinical negligence experts from Thompsons Solicitors will be on hand on the 13 July to speak to anyone who may be concerned and give legal advice and support to those affected by the work of Rob Jones, also known as Kenneth Jones.
Women who think they might have been seen by Rob Jones and are concerned should seek legal advice by 31 August 2015 because there is a time limit for filing a medical negligence claim against the ex-surgeon. Claims must be submitted by 7 November 2015 otherwise patients will be too late to pursue a case.
One of Rob K Jones’ ex-patients, who wishes to remain anonymous, has spoken out about her case. She said: “For six weeks after Rob Jones performed a prolapse repair, I had a large lump of scar tissue caused by a surgical error. I was terrified of what was going to happen to me – I couldn’t sleep with worry.
“The surgery meant I was unable to have a physical relationship with my husband. I turned to Thompsons Solicitors to support me and fight for my case. My solicitor has put me at ease throughout the process, making sure I understand every step.”
The Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust has apologised ‘unreservedly’ to those affected by the misconduct of Rob K Jones.
Madeleine Pinschof, a senior clinical negligence solicitor from Thompsons Solicitors’ Bristol office, said: "We are working with a number of women who have been affected by this shocking malpractice, however we believe that there are many more who have not yet come forward and may not even be aware of the situation.
“Understanding where you stand legally can be an important step, and we are here to support anyone who is concerned that they may have been mistreated by Rob Jones’ medical malpractice. We urge anyone who thinks they might have been affected to speak to us at Thompsons before the time limit runs out on making a claim.”
The dedicated open day will be held on Monday, 13 July 2015 between 11.30am and 4.00pm at the Unite the Union offices, Dowrglann, Stennack Road, Holmbush, St Austell PL25 3SW.
