Restaurant customer killed in accident
Wandsworth Council is urging business owners to check that the structure of their premises are safe, after a diner was killed by falling masonry outside a South West London Restaurant.
On the 10th of August Peter Westropp, 27, was sitting outside Le Bouchon Bordelais brasserie in Battersea enjoying drinks with friends when the awning collapsed causing a huge piece of stone column to break free from the premises above the restaurant.
Mr Westropp was struck by the falling masonry and sustained fatal injuries. Despite efforts made by paramedics, Mr Westropp was confirmed dead at the scene.
An investigation into the accident is now taking place.
Henrietta Phillips, a solicitor at Thompsons Solicitors’ Serious Injuries Team said: “There is a duty on occupiers of premises to make sure they are safe for lawful visitors. Mr Westropp was entirely innocent and could not have foreseen this terrible accident. My deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends.”
