Hit by car on zebra crossing
A pedestrian hit by a car on a zebra crossing in a busy town centre has received almost £4,000 in compensation after help from Thompsons Solicitors.
The 26-year-old was walking home from work in November 2009 when the Ford Fiesta ploughed into her as she used a zebra crossing on Newmarket Street in Skipton Town Centre.
The lady, who now lives and works in London, was thrown over the bonnet and hit her head on the road when she landed. She was knocked out and was badly cut and bruised including a black eye.
Back and Neck ache after accident
Since the accident the IT Consultant has suffered from backache and neck ache but the biggest impact has been psychological. She now suffers from nightmares and flashbacks and is very nervous crossing the road choosing instead to use subways wherever she can.
She said: “I was on a zebra crossing and although I saw the car as I started crossing I assumed it had seen me and would slow down. The last thing I expected was to be hit but the driver apparently didn’t see me.
“I’m now very cautious when crossing any roads, I’ve lost my confidence. I still occasionally have flashbacks if I am stressed or worried.”
Thompsons Solicitors made claim for compensation
After the accident she instructed Thompsons Solicitors to pursue a claim for compensation.
Thompsons was successful in settling the claim out of court after the driver admitted liability.
Charlotte Barnett from Thompsons Solicitors in Leeds said: “This is every pedestrian’s nightmare. A child would probably have been killed.
“This client is fortunate to have recovered from her physical injuries but the psychological scars remain and impact on the way she leads her life.”
