Thompsons Solicitors has received complaints from former patients of West Midlands-based surgeon, Mian Munawar Shah, who has been suspended following multiple medical negligence claims made against him. Thompsons is already acting for one of his former patients.

He carried out private work at Spire Little Aston, Sutton Coldfield - where Ian Paterson also practiced - and Walsall Manor Hospital between 2010 and 2020. Up to 600 of his patients are being recalled.

Linda Millband, head of clinical negligence at Thompsons Solicitors, said: “We are getting contacted by former patients of Mr Shah and we have already opened one case against him.

“You have to ask what has been going on at Spire Healthcare given the history of Paterson and Rahman, and now another doctor. This is beginning to look like systemic failure, which would not be tolerated in the NHS.

“We urge anyone who has been operated on by Mr Shah to come forward for legal advice.”

Support for victims of Ian Paterson

Thompsons Solicitors has represented more than 650 patients of former Spire Healthcare surgeon Ian Paterson. In April 2017, he was criminally convicted of multiple counts of wounding with intent at Nottingham Crown Court and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

As the leading firm handling claims against Peterson, Thompsons was, last year [2021], asked to manage a new fund to represent additional victims of Paterson’s crimes – allowing thousands of further ex-patients to seek compensation.

Support for victims of Habib Rahman

Thompsons’ medical negligence experts are also representing more than 30 ex-patients of Habib Rahman after they underwent unnecessary or inappropriate shoulder manipulation surgeries.
