Lifting and handling patients is a task familiar to all staff in the NHS, including our client who was working in a busy hospital when she was required to transfer a patient.

The patient had significant mobility issues and required assistance. However, due to the busy nature of the shift there were only limited staff who could assist, and so our client continued with the task in hand.

When attempting the transfer of the patient from a trolley to a bed, she injured her back.

The hospital denied it was at fault and sought to attack the credibility of our client. However, at trial, the Judge accepted that our client had been injured in the way that she had described and awarded compensation.
