Former chemicals worker dies from mesothelioma
Thompsons Solicitors has obtained substantial compensation for a former chemicals worker who died from asbestos related mesothelioma.
Trevor Credland from Broughton, North Lincolnshire, was 77 when he died from the cancer of the lining of the lungs.
There is no known cure for the disease, which is caused by exposure to asbestos.
Mr Credland, who left behind his wife, two children and five grandchildren, was exposed to the deadly dust when he worked as a technical assistant for a chemical company in Hull from 1956 to 1966.
He began to suffer from pain in his chest and was diagnosed with the cancer in July 2010. He died just a few months later in October 2010.
Before he died he contacted Thompsons Solicitors for advice on claiming compensation.
Thompsons was successful in settling the claim out of court
His wife, Marianne, continued the claim on his behalf. Thompsons was successful in settling the claim out of court.
Mrs Credland said: “It was important to my husband to claim compensation for his illness. He knew he had been exposed to asbestos while at work but he had never been warned by his former employers that his health was at such a huge risk.
“His illness and death was so sudden but we knew that we had to fight his claim for compensation on his behalf.”
Nicola Harrison from Thompsons Solicitors said: “Mesothelioma is an aggressive illness and often leaves sufferers without much time to put their affairs in order. I am pleased we have been able to support Mrs Credland in continuing her husband’s claim to fulfil his final wishes. “
