Mesothelioma is a cancer of the lining of the lun
More than 25 members of staff from Thompsons’ South Shields and Newcastle offices took part in the British Lung Foundation’s Lung Run in Jesmond Dene.
All proceeds from the 5k and 2.5k event go to North East-based charity the Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund.
The charity, set up by Chris Knighton, in memory of her husband Mick, raises money to fund research into the cancer of the lining of the lung caused by exposure to asbestos.
The fund has raised more than £375,000 during the last six years.
Proceeds will fund research into improving diagnosis and treatment of mesothelioma
Proceeds from the run will go towards helping fund important research into improving diagnosis and treatment for mesothelioma.
Team manager at Thompsons South Shields office David Mole said: “At Thompsons we know only too well the difficulties facing victims of mesothelioma and their families. We see first-hand the devastating effect of the disease.
“The Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund provides much needed support for research into treatment for this terrible disease. The staff at Thompsons wanted to do their bit to help raise money for the fund and we jumped at the chance to take part in this event.”
Chris said: “It was fantastic to see so much support for this year’s Lung Run including runners from Thompsons Solicitors.
“All the funds go direct to the charity to fund vital research into Mesothelioma. We had over 150 runners this year and hope the amount raised will beat all our expectations.”

Asbestos disease diagnosis? Talk to us for advice and support on how to secure compensation.
If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with an asbestos-related disease, we can support you with advice on how to make a claim.
The process will be explained in plain English and with no obligation – our priority is to provide you with the best, expert advice on whether you have a valid case for compensation, and to signpost you to further sources of support.
There are strict time limits applied to making a claim – usually three years from the date of diagnosis. It doesn’t matter if the exposure to asbestos took place – as it often does – decades ago, the three year time limit applies to the date of knowledge of diagnosis or date of death.
