Exposed to asbestos working as a manager at a builders merchant
The family of a manager of a builders merchant who was exposed to asbestos has received substantial compensation with help from Thompsons Solicitors.
The 85-year-old, from Northampton was exposed to asbestos while working as assistant manager and then manager of a builders merchant in the city from 1962 to 1969.
He was exposed to asbestos sheeting which the firm stocked, cut and then sold.
He was never warned about the dangers of asbestos or given adequate protection from the dust.
The dad of two and grandfather first became ill in September 2008 when he suffered from breathlessness. His health quickly deteriorated but he wasn’t diagnosed with mesothelioma until the day he died in July 2009.
Thompsons Solicitors are asbestos claims specialists
Following his death his family contacted asbestos claims specialists Thompsons Solicitors to find out more about pursuing a claim for compensation.
Thompsons Solicitors successfully secured substantial damages in an out of court settlement.
The man’s son said: “My dad became ill very rapidly and it took a long time to find out exactly what was wrong with him. Just a few days before he died he had a biopsy but he passed away before the results were determined.
“It was important to my dad to make sure that mum was looked after in the future. He always took responsibility for the finances and it was his wish that this compensation would be obtained for her.”
Tim Hayward from Thompsons Solicitors added: “Compensation can never make up for the father and husband who has lost his life to asbestos but it does provide much needed financial support for his family.
“Mesothelioma is a devastating disease which has an impact on all the family. Every case we handle is pursued with empathy, efficiency and speed.”
