Thompsons Solicitors is supporting an appeal for information following the death of a man from asbestos disease
Thompsons' mesothelioma solicitors is supporting a woman in an appeal that asks former colleagues of her father, who worked at Manchester-based manufacturers, to come forward with information following his death from an asbestos disease. James Spencer died in July 2016 – 13 days before his 81st birthday - after developing the fatal asbestos disease, mesothelioma.
James worked as a fire equipment maintenance operator for John Morris Limited between 1968 and 1978 and at N.F.S Fire Protection Limited from 1978 to 2001.
His daughter, Tracey, is now urging former colleagues of her father to come forward if they have information about the working conditions at both employers, so that she can understand where and when he was exposed to asbestos.

“If you worked with James at John Morris Limited or N.F.S Fire Protection Limited, and have information about the working conditions at the employers, please contact us as you could provide the answers that Tracey and her family are so desperately looking for.”Alison Barnard of Thompsons Solicitors
She said: “My dad’s diagnosis came as a complete shock to our family, but the fact that it was because of asbestos exposure has left us with more questions than answers.
“I’m hoping that someone who used to work with my dad, or who used to work at the companies generally, will see this and be able to provide us with information about the conditions he worked in. We’re hoping this will give us some closure on his death, because at the moment we don’t know how he was exposed to the toxic substance that took his life.”
Alison Barnard, of Thompsons Solicitors, said: “Asbestos-related diseases cause thousands of deaths every year, and are predicted to be the biggest industrial killer of all time. Thompsons Solicitors brought the first-ever successful case for asbestos disease compensation to the House of Lords in 1972, and has continued to support those affected by asbestos ever since.
“It is vitally important that we find more information about James’ working conditions so we can support his family with a claim. If you worked with James at John Morris Limited or N.F.S Fire Protection Limited, and have information about the working conditions at the employers, please contact us as you could provide the answers that Tracey and her family are so desperately looking for.”
Anyone with information about the working conditions at either employer should contact Alison Barnard at Thompsons Solicitors’ Manchester office, on 0161 819 3512.
Asbestos disease diagnosis? Talk to us for advice and support on how to secure compensation.
If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with an asbestos-related disease, we can support you with advice on how to make a claim.
The process will be explained in plain English and with no obligation – our priority is to provide you with the best, expert advice on whether you have a valid case for compensation, and to signpost you to further sources of support.
There are strict time limits applied to making a claim – usually three years from the date of diagnosis. It doesn’t matter if the exposure to asbestos took place – as it often does – decades ago, the three year time limit applies to the date of knowledge of diagnosis or date of death.
