Compensation for mesothelioma
The family of a granddad who was first exposed to asbestos as a 15-year-old apprentice has received substantial compensation after developing mesothelioma, a cancer of the lining of the lungs.
The 73-year-old from Warrington sadly died of the cancer in May 2012, caused by exposure to asbestos.
Before his death he instructed asbestos claims experts, Thompsons Solicitors, to pursue a claim for compensation against his former employers.
Exposed to asbestos on almost a daily basis at work
He worked for a train manufacturer from 1955 until 1961 where he trained as an apprentice.
During his six years with the firm he was exposed to asbestos almost on a daily basis. He was never warned of the dangers or provided with any protection.
He was diagnosed with mesothelioma in September 2011 and contacted Cheshire Asbestos Victims Support Group (CAVSG). He then instructed Thompsons Solicitors' specialist asbestos legal team.
Thompsons Solicitors obtained compensation within just five months
Thompsons settled the claim within just five months and within the client’s lifetime.
His wife said: “It was extremely important to my husband to claim compensation to ensure his family were provided for in the future. He was impressed by how quickly everything was handled and it was a great relief to know that his claim was settled before his death.”
Brian from CAVSG added: “We support many victims of asbestos and their families in the Cheshire area and many of these victims worked for this employer. We understand this family’s loss and are glad we were able to provide them with support during this difficult time.”
Steven Dickens from Thompsons Solicitors said: “This client was just 15-years-old when he was first exposed to asbestos. He had no idea it would eventually cause his death decades later. We have acted on behalf of thousands of victims of asbestos and their families. It is important for those with mesothelioma to know the claim has been brought to a successful conclusion within their lifetime.”
Asbestos disease diagnosis? Talk to us for advice and support on how to secure compensation.
If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with an asbestos-related disease, we can support you with advice on how to make a claim.
The process will be explained in plain English and with no obligation – our priority is to provide you with the best, expert advice on whether you have a valid case for compensation, and to signpost you to further sources of support.
There are strict time limits applied to making a claim – usually three years from the date of diagnosis. It doesn’t matter if the exposure to asbestos took place – as it often does – decades ago, the three year time limit applies to the date of knowledge of diagnosis or date of death.
