Did you work with Peter Hemsworth from Doncaster?
The family of a great granddad who died of an asbestos-related disease is calling for his former work colleagues to come forward with information.
Peter Hemsworth from Doncaster was 79 when he died from asbestosis, a serious lung disease caused by asbestos.
Mr Hemsworth became increasingly poorly throughout 2010 before he sadly died in February 2011.
He left behind his wife, four children, eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Following his death and post mortem his daughter, Carol Bailey, instructed asbestos claims experts Thompsons Solicitors for advice.
Information needed about Mr Hemsworth's working life
Thompsons Solicitors are interested in finding out more information about Mr Hemsworth’s work with ICI Fibres, also known as British Nylon Spinners, from 1965 to 1972. During his time there he worked on the factory floor and was responsible for changing bobbins on the machines.
He later worked in power stations across Yorkshire as a contractor for CEGB. He was an electrician’s mate between 1971 until he retired in 1994 and during that time he worked in numerous power stations including Drax, Eggborough, Thorp Marsh, Ferrybridge and Keadby.
He worked for a number of different contractors on the power stations, including Watson Norie, Sir Alfred McAlpine and Son, Norwest Holt Construction, Babcock and Wilcox operations, Holliday Hall, and Tarmac National Construction.
ICI Fibres and Yorkshire power stations
Carol would like anyone who worked with her father either at ICI Fibres between 1965 to 1972 or anyone who worked alongside him at Yorkshire power stations between 1971 and 1994 to contact Thompsons Solicitors.
Carol said: “My dad was a very proud man and didn’t want to burden the family with his illness. It was only after his death that we became aware of the full nature of his condition.
“We urge anyone who knew him at work to get in touch with Thompsons Solicitors.”
Helen Tomlin from Thompsons Solicitors added: “Mr Hemsworth sadly passed away without knowing that his exposure to asbestos during his working life was affecting his health. We would like to talk to his former colleagues at ICI Fibres and in Yorkshire power stations to find out more about his working conditions.”
Anyone with any more information should contact Helen Tomlin on 08000 224 224 or by email on enquiries@thompsons.law.co.uk.
Asbestos disease diagnosis? Talk to us for advice and support on how to secure compensation.
If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with an asbestos-related disease, we can support you with advice on how to make a claim.
The process will be explained in plain English and with no obligation – our priority is to provide you with the best, expert advice on whether you have a valid case for compensation, and to signpost you to further sources of support.
There are strict time limits applied to making a claim – usually three years from the date of diagnosis. It doesn’t matter if the exposure to asbestos took place – as it often does – decades ago, the three year time limit applies to the date of knowledge of diagnosis or date of death.
