Did you work with Kathleen Libers (nee Steel) in Barrow?
The family of a confectioner have renewed their appeal for information from her former work colleagues after she died from an asbestos-related disease.
Kathleen Libers, nee Steel, died, aged 85, in October 2008 from the asbestos related cancer mesothelioma.
She left behind her husband, John, son David and two grandchildren.
Diagnosed with mesothelioma
Kathleen was originally from Barrow in Furness but lived in Leeds before she died. She was diagnosed with mesothelioma in July 2008 after complaining of breathlessness.
Mesothelioma is caused by exposure to asbestos. Many sufferers were exposed to the dust in the workplace.
Kathleen’s son, David, instructed asbestos claims experts Thompsons Solicitors for advice about claiming compensation.

The family wish to hear from anyone who may know more about the working conditions when Kathleen worked in the Co-operative Bake House Barrow between 1938 to 1964.
Kathleen joined the Co-op at just 15 and was employed as an apprentice confectioner.
Thompsons are interested in particular about any information anyone may have on working conditions and the work equipment.
David said: “All the family are devastated that my mum suffered such a painful illness and has been taken away from us before her time. It is all the more distressing knowing that she probably developed the disease because of her work.
“It is important to all of us, but to my dad in particular, to find out more about how she came into contact with asbestos.”

Asbestos disease diagnosis? Talk to us for advice and support on how to secure compensation.
If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with an asbestos-related disease, we can support you with advice on how to make a claim.
The process will be explained in plain English and with no obligation – our priority is to provide you with the best, expert advice on whether you have a valid case for compensation, and to signpost you to further sources of support.
There are strict time limits applied to making a claim – usually three years from the date of diagnosis. It doesn’t matter if the exposure to asbestos took place – as it often does – decades ago, the three year time limit applies to the date of knowledge of diagnosis or date of death.
