Compensation for Asbestosis
A joiner from St Helen’s, Merseyside was diagnosed with asbestosis in 2008 after being exposed to asbestos whilst working for ICI and Harland and Wolff shipbuilders.
The debilitating disease often leaves sufferers breathless and with limited mobility
The 82-year-old father of two and grandfather of four instructed asbestos claims experts Thompsons Solicitors to investigate a claim for compensation.
Thompsons proved he was negligently exposed to asbestos working for ICI Northwich from 1950 to 1951 and for Harland and Wolff between 1953 and 1958.
Neither of the employers had provided appropriate protection against asbestos or warned him about the dangers to his health.
Thompsons Solicitors made asbestosis compensation claim
Thompsons achieved an out of court settlement of £23,650 from the two former employers.
The joiner said: “I knew I was breathing in asbestos all those years ago but had no idea just how dangerous it was at the time. When I was told I had asbestosis I knew straight away that it had been caused by my former employers.
“It has left me breathless and it is getting worse as time goes on. I felt it was important to prove that my former employers were to blame for causing it. I am pleased my case has finally settled.”
Steven Dickens from Thompsons Solicitors said: “Our client has been left with a disability because of his employers failure to protect him from exposure to asbestos dust. The compensation will help him financially as well as recognising that his employers have been held to account.”
Asbestos disease diagnosis? Talk to us for advice and support on how to secure compensation.
If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with an asbestos-related disease, we can support you with advice on how to make a claim.
The process will be explained in plain English and with no obligation – our priority is to provide you with the best, expert advice on whether you have a valid case for compensation, and to signpost you to further sources of support.
There are strict time limits applied to making a claim – usually three years from the date of diagnosis. It doesn’t matter if the exposure to asbestos took place – as it often does – decades ago, the three year time limit applies to the date of knowledge of diagnosis or date of death.
