Thompsons Solicitors has secured five-figure compensation for a man who fractured his right leg when he slipped on ice at work.
"The support I received from Thompsons Solicitors was fantastic. My solicitor, in particular, was great and guided me through the entire legal process. They regularly updated me on my case and how much compensation I could expect, either by phone or in person. I would recommend Thompsons Solicitors to anyone unfortunate enough to suffer an injury in the workplace."Philip Castleton Thompsons Solicitors client
Philip Castleton, a driver for West Midlands Special Needs Transport, slipped on ice as he was clearing snow from the company’s premises in Birmingham. He fractured his right calf bone and needed surgery to implant a fixation device that supported the leg as the bone healed.
The 62-year-old had to take sick leave and, 10 months after his accident when he still wasn’t fit, he was dismissed by his employer because of his absence. He has not been able to find alternative employment and continues to suffer pain in his right ankle. The injury also caused Philip to suffer episodes of depression.
The path that Philip fell on had been cleared by colleagues prior to him starting work, but it was not gritted and had subsequently frozen over.
He turned to Thompsons Solicitors for legal support in making a personal injury compensation claim. Its legal specialists helped secure the settlement for Philip.
“I was asked to clear the yard early in the morning and lighting was poor, so I could hardly see what I was doing,” said Philip. “If my colleagues had spent a few minutes gritting the ground, it would have saved me years of pain and frustration. In fact, I think the issues with my ankle will never truly subside.

Amie Jeffcott, of Thompsons Solicitors, added: “Even in extreme weather, employers still have a duty of care to their staff to limit the risk of personal injury. Poor planning has left Philip in substantial pain and struggling to re-enter employment, so the compensation is not only for the pain but also to cover his living costs while he tries to find new work.”
