Headway’s ‘Look Ahead in the North’ 2017 action-packed weekend proved a huge success
Brain injury survivors, their family and friends enjoyed an action-packed weekend at the Calvert Trust in Northumberland, as part of charity Headway’s 2017 ‘Look Ahead in the North’ event.
Organised by the brain injury charity and sponsored by Thompsons Solicitors for the sixth time, the event saw participants enjoy a weekend of activities, including a climbing wall, zip line, archery, and wheelchair assault courses.
Visitors were also given the chance to take part in African drumming, as well as hypnotherapy and a disco.

Paul Brown, senior serious injury solicitor at Thompsons Solicitors
Paul Brown, a serious injury solicitor for Thompsons Solicitors, was among a number of Headway Wearside members that joined in with the activities.
“Thompsons has worked closely with Headway for a number of years, so we were extremely pleased to support this event and bring together brain injury survivors,” said Paul.
According to Headway, there were nearly 350,000 UK hospital admissions for acquired brain injuries in 2013-14, an increase of nearly 10 per cent since 2005-06.
Paul continued: “The work that Headway does goes hand-in-hand with Thompsons’ aims to ensure survivors receive the highest quality rehabilitation and support for their injury. This includes making adjustments to their home and working life to promote social independence and inclusion, and supporting positive, social events that reduce the feeling of isolation that can sometimes accompany such injuries.
“The weekend was great fun from start to finish and highlighted Headway’s ethos of support for survivors and their loved ones. Thompsons always has and will continue to fight for the rights of those affected by brain injuries, and with the support of groups such as Headway, we can ensure people are given all the support they need to move forward after a serious injury.”
