Thompsons Solicitors has secured more than £1.3 million in compensation in October for clients suffering from asbestos diseases.

The specialist asbestos litigation team concluded successful claims for clients suffering from asbestos-related diseases including mesothelioma, pleural thickening, lung cancer and asbestosis recovering compensation totalling £1,319,671.

Thompsons Solicitors brought the UK’s first-ever successful case for asbestos-related disease to the House of Lords in 1972, and has since worked with tens of thousands of clients who have suffered as a result of asbestos disease.

Asbestos exposure is the single greatest cause of work related deaths in the UK and, according to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), leads to nearly 5,000 deaths every year.

Ian McFall, head of asbestos litigation at Thompsons Solicitors, said: “Historic exposure to asbestos continues to result in an increasing number of people developing disease, often decades after they were first exposed.

“The dangers of asbestos have long been well documented, but the number of deaths each year in the UK is expected to continue rising until at least 2020.

“Our specialist team works tirelessly with compassion to support our clients, to ensure not only that they receive the maximum possible compensation in the shortest possible time, but also that negligent employers and their insurers are held to account.”
