A joint Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Humberside Police investigation has been launched after a factory worker was injured in an industrial accident leading to serious spinal injuries at a chicken processing plant.

The 38-year-old factory worker from Scunthorpe was injured at the 2 Sisters Food Group plant in Scunthorpe on the 6 September. The Scunthorpe man became trapped in machinery in the Lairage area of the chicken processing plant and sustained extensive crush injuries that have left him in a critical condition with life threatening injuries at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

Helen Shakespeare, a solicitor at Thompsons Solicitors' Serious Injuries Team said: "Factory environments present all kinds of possible dangers to employees and crushing injuries are common though thankfully not often this severe. The key is almost always inspection, maintenance and training. Our thoughts go to the man's family and friends who will be having to live through a nightmare.
