Headway Preston & Chorley the registered charity providing support for those with a brain injury and their families has set itself an ambitious fundraising target after raising over £6,000 in 3 months
The charity provides free services ranging from hospital visits and advice on the best forms of rehabilitation to help with benefits and compensation and practical advice and emotional support to people with a brain injury and their loved ones.
Fundraising events are held regularly all-year round by Headway committee members and supporters to fund the excellent work carried out by Headway Preston and Chorley. In the last three months alone they have raised £4,000 at a golf event organised by committee member John Oxley, £1,650.62 for a sponsored run carried out by supporter Phil Burrows and £400 from Hats for Headway Day.
Now the group, which has been going for almost 2 years, aims to hit £10,000 in 6 months. Their next big event is a further fundraising golf day in September.
Liz Bamber, Development Worker at Headway Preston and Chorley said: "We are being ambitious in our fundraising but seeing the positive impact we have on people’s lives at very difficult times drives us on. It is clear there is a real local need to help people cope and more funds means we can reach and help more local people".
Imogen Wetton a personal injury solicitor specialising in serious injuries at Thompsons Solicitors in Manchester and a committee member with Headway Preston & Chorley said "The work done by Headway really does make such a huge difference to the lives of people affected by brain injuries, I see it time and again. Compensation isn’t always available and it isn’t always the answer. Local support that recognises everyone’s needs are different and rehabilitation specific to the individual is key to recovery.”
Drop-in sessions are held on the first Tuesday of every month and anyone affected by brain injury or who has a loved one with a brain injury is welcome to attend. The sessions take place at the Salvation Army building on Harrington Street, Preston, PR1 7BN between 1pm and 4pm. Dates for the remainder of 2012 are 7th August, 4th September, 2nd October, 6th November and 4th December.
The session in October will be combined with second anniversary celebrations where food and entertainment will be supplied.
