Plans to remove the barriers facing disabled people in Wales have been unveiled
A disability plan for independent living was launched today by the Welsh Government.
The plan aims to remove the barriers facing disabled people in Wales and ensure that they have the same access to services and opportunities as the rest of society.
Following extensive engagement with disabled people and disability organisations, the framework sets out a positive vision for disabled people.
Measures include strengthening the tenancy rights of people with learning disabilities and developing a Charter for Disabled Public Transport Passengers so that disabled passengers can identify bus and train operators that are committed to disability access.
Louise Westlake, a senior serious injury solicitor from Thompsons Solicitors said: “We work with hundreds of clients whose lives have been turned upside down by accidents resulting in a disability.
“We welcome this move from the Welsh Government which will hopefully empower people with a disability to regain independence and exercise more control over their daily lives.”
