Charity working to support brain injury survivors
David Robinson, specialist brain injuries solicitor at Thompsons Solicitors and Secretary of ‘Headway Teesside’, a charity working to support brain injury survivors, attended the national ‘Way Ahead Conference’ in Leicester this weekend.
Speaking about the event David said: “The conference was absolutely fantastic and provided the opportunity to meet friends from Headway groups and branches from across the country. The talks on brain injury rehabilitation and developments in neurological trauma, to name but two, were excellent, as were the workshops that were available throughout the weekend”.
Headway is a charity which supports those who have sustained brain injuries, and is increasing developing services to assist in brain injury rehabilitation. It also offers support to families and friends of those who have sustained a brain injury.
Thompsons Solicitors sponsored the event
As well as sponsoring the event, we at Thompsons Solicitors also donated a Nintendo Wii to two Headway Groups. The Nintendo Wii is considered to be of benefit in developing balance and coordination and can assist with brain injury rehabilitation. To be in for a chance of winning the groups had to explain why they should receive the Nintendo Wii. All of the entries were fantastic and it was a difficult call for the Judges, but the winning entries were Headway Preston and Chorley and Headway Basingstoke.
David presented Headway Preston and Chorley with its prize and explained: “Headway Preston and Chorley is a new group and the Judges considered that their plea for the Nintendo Wii was truly heartfelt and would give them a real jump forward in developing support for brain injury survivors and their family and friends”.
Lisa Gunner, a specialist brain injuries solicitor also at Thompsons Solicitors, presented Headway Gwynedd with its prize and said: “Headway Gwynedd came up with a unique idea of not only using the Nintendo Wii during their group sessions, but also loaning it out to group members for personal use at home so that it was fully utilised. Such initiative was welcomed by the Judges and we look forward to hearing about how their members get on”.
There was a record number of delegates at Conference and planning will shortly be under way for next year’s Conference.
