Theme of Brake’s annual awareness week is ‘tune in to road safety’
Road safety charity, Brake, has launched a campaign calling on drivers to turn off their phones and ‘tune in’ to road safety during Road Safety Week (18-24 November).
The ‘tune in’ campaign is urging road users to avoid distractions, including the use of mobile phones, while driving, walking, cycling and skating, and to keep focussed on the road.
The week-long event, supported by thousands of schools, organisations and communities, aims to highlight the dangers of driving while distracted and encourage individuals to take action on road safety.
Thompsons Solicitors is a long-standing advocate of Brake, and has strong links with other road safety charities and organisations including RoadPeace and The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.
David Robinson, Chair of RoadPeace in the North East and a solicitor who specialises in serious road traffic accident claims at Thompsons, said: “Recent figures from the Department for Transport suggest that road casualty figures have decreased since 2012, but the fact is that fatalities and serious injuries are still far too high. Just look at the cycling deaths in London in the last few days, another one on Monday this week.
