Road Peace North East
Victims of road collisions and their families will have access to greater support in the North East thanks to the launch of Road Peace North East.
The new group, which forms a branch of national charity Road Peace, will campaign for increased road safety in the region while providing help and support to people who have been affected by collisions on the road.
David Robinson, Road Peace North East Chair Person and local solicitor at Thompsons said:
“I feel very privileged to be taking on the role of Chair Person of Road Peace North East. During my career as a solicitor I have seen first-hand the effect road collisions are having on our community, be that the impact of serious injuries inflicted on individuals or the unimaginable anguish caused by fatal collisions.”
Combating the increased trend of road traffic collisions
Road Peace North East is committed to combating the increased trend of road traffic collisions and reducing the number of victims being left with life-changing injuries. It will campaign for large haulage companies in the area to develop driver training policies that ensure the risk from HGV to vulnerable road users – such as pedestrians and cyclists – is minimised.
“Statistics tell us that five people are killed on UK roads every day. Living in the North East, I find that rarely a day goes by without reports of serious collisions on our roads, particularly the A19, A66 and A1.
“Road Peace North East will provide support to victims of road traffic collisions and their families and offer practical help through the processes of police investigations, coroner’s courts and the criminal justice system,” added David.
