More teams wanted to join tournament
A charity football tournament is being held by a North East firm of Solicitors to help raise funds for a much-needed charity for disabled children.
Thompsons Solicitors is hosting the Thompsons Cup 2011 five-a-side tournament on Friday, June 10 to raise funds for the Newcastle Special Needs Network.
The charity works with the parents of disabled children from birth to 25-years-old providing tailored support, information and advice.
It was set up in 1996 when a group of parents with disabled children came together to voice their opinions on the provision of services for children with disabilities in Newcastle.
The charity now has dedicated teams helping families to access facilities in the area.
Tournament to raise funds for charity
The football tournament hopes to raise funds to help the charity continue its work.
A brain injury lawyer from Thompsons Solicitors' serious injuries team in Newcastle, said: “The Special Needs Network is a charity close to my heart and this tournament will help it raise funds to continue its vital work. We are still looking for teams to take part so would urge anyone with a love of football to join us for what should be a competitive but fun evening for a good cause.”
Helen Milner, chief executive of Newcastle Special Needs Network said: “The network provides a much-needed service to parents with disabled children in the North East by providing advice, support and signposting them to the different organisations out there which can help them. This fundraiser will help us to continue that valuable work.”
There are still places for teams to join the tournament. Teams should consist of six players and each team will be guaranteed at least three games. Entry is £60 per team.
