Hundreds of events across the UK will take place on Saturday 25 June to mark the work of military personnel as part of Armed Forces Day.

The annual awareness day, which was established in 2009 by the Royal British Legion, provides an opportunity for the public to show their support and appreciation for servicemen and women who dedicate their lives to protect their country.

As well as regional events such as air shows, street parties and parades taking place across the UK, this year’s main event will be held in Cleethorpes in Lincolnshire. The armed forces flag will be flown at key landmarks across the country in honour of the day.

A social media campaign will also encourage people to use the hashtag, ‘#saluteourforces’ to accompany photos of themselves saluting, in support of Armed Forces Day.
