Patients worried about their treatment can speak to medical negligence experts at an open day on the 4 July
Thompsons Solicitors is urging breast cancer patients with concerns about treatment received at the Royal Stoke University Hospital to attend a dedicated open day.
Concerned patients can make appointments to be seen privately by a medical negligence expert at no cost on the open day, which will take place on 4 July at Thompsons Solicitors’ Stoke office.
Thompsons Solicitors’ medical negligence team has arranged the dedicated open day, following reports that 26 women, who underwent breast cancer operations conducted by a surgeon based at the Staffordshire infirmary, “may have been harmed”.
University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust revealed that the operations concerned either breast reconstruction or risk reduction surgery. The trust has written to patients who may have been affected.
The unnamed medic has been suspended from seeing patients since January 2016, after concerns were first raised by the hospital’s Breast Care Team in December last year.
Both the hospital and The Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) are carrying out full investigations into the claims.
Linda Millband, national practice lead of the clinical negligence team at Thompsons Solicitors, said: “While specific details surrounding this case remain unclear at this stage, we are deeply concerned to learn of the suspected negligent practise of a surgeon at the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
“From our experience supporting victims of negligent surgery, specifically cases involving surgery by Ian Paterson and Roger Bainton, we know that this is likely to be an extremely worrying time for breast cancer patients treated at the hospital.
“We are currently providing support to one patient affected by this case and we urge patients who feel concerned about their treatment at the hospital to call our experts, or attend our open day on 4 July.”
The dedicated open day will be held on Monday 4 July between 10am and 4pm at Thompsons Solicitors’ Stoke office - Building 3, Etruria Valley Office Village, Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent, ST1 5RQ.
If you are concerned about treatment you have received at the Royal Stoke University Hospital and would like to book an appointment either in person or by telephone please call 0121 222 2149 or 0121 262 1262.
