Thompsons successfully concluded cases for clients suffering from asbestos related diseases
Thompsons Solicitors’ specialist asbestos litigation team secured more than £1.8 million in compensation over the last two months for sufferers of asbestos diseases.
During August and September, Thompsons settled claims for clients across the UK suffering from mesothelioma, asbestosis, diffuse pleural thickening and asbestos-related lung cancer.
More lives are lost every year in the UK to asbestos-related diseases than to road traffic accidents, and the UK has among the highest rates of mesothelioma – an invariably fatal cancer caused by exposure to asbestos - in the world.
Ian McFall, head of asbestos litigation at Thompsons Solicitors, said: “The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) estimates that there are more than 5,000 deaths resulting from asbestos-related diseases every year in the UK. That’s 5,000 families annually who have to confront the harrowing emotional and financial consequences of a devastating disease.
“Compensation plays an important practical role in delivering financial assistance and security at such a difficult time for the family, while also providing a sense of redress for the suffering caused.
“Since bringing the first successful case for asbestos-related disease to the House of Lords in 1972, Thompsons has supported tens of thousands of people whose lives have been devastated by asbestos disease.
“We use our experience and compassion to support our clients through every step of the claim, while holding negligent employers and their insurers to account by aiming to secure the maximum amount of compensation in the shortest time possible.”

Asbestos disease diagnosis? Talk to us for advice and support on how to secure compensation.
If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with an asbestos-related disease, we can support you with advice on how to make a claim.
The process will be explained in plain English and with no obligation – our priority is to provide you with the best, expert advice on whether you have a valid case for compensation, and to signpost you to further sources of support.
There are strict time limits applied to making a claim – usually three years from the date of diagnosis. It doesn’t matter if the exposure to asbestos took place – as it often does – decades ago, the three year time limit applies to the date of knowledge of diagnosis or date of death.
