In a summer where four soldiers have died on UK soil during training exercises, Thompsons Solicitors argues it is time for the Ministry of Defence to reconsider its safety standards and policies.
Last week Private Michael Ihemere died following a training exercise in North Yorkshire; his death was preceded by three soldiers who died earlier in the summer in the Brecon Beacons.
David Robinson, Thompsons Solicitors’ military claims specialist, said: “Another life has been lost and another family shattered as a result of a military training exercise that has gone wrong. My heartfelt condolences go out to Private Ihemere's family and friends.
“This summer has seen circumstances where four soldiers have needlessly died; although the details are still being investigated I would urge the Ministry of Defence to review its policies now to avoid another death. Safety standards are not something that apply to a gym or a school but not to the MOD”.
“Military personnel serve us all daily and we should seek to ensure that we protect them from avoidable harm and injury.”
