Judith Lamb is the first point of contact for medical negligence claims at Thompsons Solicitors’ Newcastle centre, working alongside the medical negligence solicitors for clients from the North East, Cumbria and Yorkshire & Humberside.
As an experienced paralegal, Judith’s job is to hold initial discussions with clients to identify their problems and advise them on complaints procedures. She will also guide them in what is required to make a successful claim and how to fund it. She is aware of the need for patience and tact while dealing with clients who have often undergone complex treatment regimes and experienced considerable pain and anguish because of clinical errors.
After taking the key information from the client, who may be suffering from a range of physical, dental and psychological injuries, another member of the team assesses whether the claim is likely to succeed.
Judith reviews medical records, advises on complaints procedures, assesses official replies to complaints already made and commissions experts where necessary. She also arranges conferences and participates in them.
In her 14 years at Thompsons, Judith has also worked for the asbestos litigation team and the serious injury team.
Judith explains that her loyalty to the firm is based on its insistence on working exclusively for the injured party rather those who may be responsible for the injuries or their insurance companies.
Away from work Judith enjoys walking and travelling around Britain.
