Thompsons remains one of the most diverse law firms of its size, with a senior leadership team that is majority women-led
Our commitment to tackling inequality through our work with trade unions and wider campaigning is embedded in our culture – and this commitment extends to our own people.
International Women’s Day 2023 has the theme ‘Embrace Equity’, and we are incredibly proud to remain one of the most diverse law firms of our size. Data from the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) shows Thompsons compares favourably when it comes to diversity in the workplace.
"As we mark International Women’s Day 2023, we want to not only celebrate the women who are in senior roles at the firm, but encourage and nurture the next generation too."
Clare Mellor, Chief Executive
Our Chief Executive and our Chair are both women – for the first time in Thompsons’ history. In addition, the majority of our directors and partners are women. We know the value that comes from investing in women, equipping and enabling them to thrive in our firm and beyond.
This is showcased by our ‘Women in Partnership – Amplify’ initiative, which was launched last autumn, and offers our senior women colleagues opportunities to come together, work together, support and encourage one another, and benefit from professional coaching. These sessions include networking with women leaders in the trade union and labour movement, with the first session addressed by the then TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady. Together, we continue to build and ensure our people can reach their full potential.
Clare Mellor, Chief Executive at Thompsons Solicitors, said: “For over a century, Thompsons has stood up for the injured, the mistreated, and the underrepresented. As we mark International Women’s Day 2023, we want to not only celebrate the women who are in senior roles at the firm, but encourage and nurture the next generation too.
“The ‘Women in Partnership – Amplify’ initiative ensures our women leaders have the confidence to excel. I am especially proud of this initiative as it goes to the very core of what International Women’s Day is all about – making sure that there is action, not just words.
“We’re looking forward to harnessing the talent and values of our committed colleagues as we continue to fight for equality and social justice across the UK and beyond.”
